Schwanheim Aviation Fair 2015 (slide show and sad news)
It is with sadness that I must report that the long time organizer of the famous Schwanheim Aviation Fair, Lothar Grim, very sadly passed away last Thursday, October 30, 2014, just two days before the show.
Lothar had been battling cancer and was actually hoping to attend the show, but it was not meant to be. Lothar’s good friend Heeli made a very sad announcement about Lothar’s passing at the start of the show (in both English and German) which was followed by a very lengthy applause as everyone in attendance paid their respects and appreciation to all of Lothar’s fine efforts. Lothar was a very kind man, and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Personally I have been attending this annual show for the past fifteen years and it was an honour to know Lothar. Many collector in Europe and the world have been attending this show for many years, and also came to know Lothar as friend and trusted partner in the hobby.
It was Lothar’s wish that the show continue, and a small group of friends have formed an informal society to insure the continuation of the show for the enjoyment of all in future years. The 2015 Schwanheim Aviation Fair will take place the weekend on November 6-7 and will be dedicated to Lothar’s memory. A new website http://www.aviation-weekend.com has been set up to be the information source for future Schwanheim aviation shows.
Like every year, this year’s show was extremely well attended with all sorts of airline collectibles being offered for sale or trade, as exampled by the images presented in the slide show below.
