Las Vegas Holiday

By 1530 we had checked in for our flight and were out at the B gates for our US Airways flight to Phoenix and then Vancouver. With time to kill before our 1720 departure, IME and I played the WOF slot by the B gates. I turned $5 into $17 and decided that was a good way to call it quits for this trip, and IME turned $100 into $108. Overall, we brought home $100 from our $300 gambling pot, and given the amount of fun we had, it was worth every penny! Our flight left Vegas late due to a crew scheduling problem and our connection in Phoenix was tight, but we made back home to Vancouver on time and were once again very pleased with US Airways and US Airways Vacations. We really want to see the Cirque de Soleil show "Love" .. so that's our excuse to get back to Vegas as soon as possible!

OVERALL COMMENTS
AIR – US Airways was great, the fare was excellent, the service was excellent and we’ll definitely fly them again

HOTEL – The Flamingo was fantastic. We loved the pool and the excellent central location, and would definitely stay there again. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the room service was very good. The only complaint is the lack of drink service by the cocktail waitresses on the casino floor.

SHOWS – The Rat Pack and Trent Carlini shows were OK. We enjoyed both shows, but don’t need to see either again.

BUFFETS – The Mirage’s Cravings, Harrah’s Flavors, and Rio’s Buffet were all really good. In year’s past these buffets didn’t rate so well, but they’ve certainly improved their offerings from what we experienced. We’d rate them strong 9s to 10s, and getting very close to the three best buffets in Vegas (Spice Market at Planet Hollywood, Le Village at Paris, and Bellagio’s buffet).

GAMBLING – Had a ton of fun. Only lost $200 between the two us during our 6 day visit, and that’s a small price to pay for that kind of entertainment!

GRAND CANYON – We loved it! Definitely recommend booking your tour with King Airlines. Their customer service is fantastic, the air tour was amazing, the pilots are great guys, and they run a very efficient and professional operation. A++, and will definitely do this tour again.

ONE FINAL WORD OF CAUTION TO FEMALE TRAVELLERS…
The following illustrates why female travelers who on their own in Vegas must be vigilant regarding their security. After we parted company with M she went to check out the live flamingos at the hotel. While watching the flamingos, a seemingly friendly woman struck up a conversation with M. The woman, who claimed to be a local, said that she was at the hotel having her hair done. After about twenty minutes of very pleasant conversation, this woman asked M if she would like to “go for a drink or bite to eat” to which M said that would be fine. At that point, the woman said “I need to change out of these sweat pants first, let’s get in my car, go to my place, and then we’ll go… I won’t take long” to which my sister immediately declined knowing that you never ever get in anyone’s car when traveling solo in situations like this. The woman then said “OK we can go somewhere more casual, but we need to drive there” to which M declined as well. When M asked if there was anywhere they could go by walking, the woman declined, but kept trying to persuade M to get in the car with her.

It is very apparent that this woman was desperately trying to get M into her car using the hair and sweatpants story as bait. The most likely scenario is that this woman lures single women into her car and then robs them with the help of an accomplice. She obviously trolls the casinos for potential single suspects, and in a city as big as Vegas, she is likely not the only person engaged in this activity. So beware and be cautious of this and other similar ploys specially when traveling solo in Las Vegas, and this applies to other cities as well.
