Between 1988 and 1990, the author made several trips to Brazil to document VARIG'S "Ponte Aerea" Air Bridge operation, which employed a fleet of 14 immaculate Lockheed Electras. VARIG was a fabulous airline with proud and dedicated employees, keen to assist an aviation fan from Canada in photo documenting their amazing operation.
Connecting Rio's famous Santos Dumont airport with Congonhas airport in Sao Paulo, this was the world's largest passenger Electra operation. The Air Bridge attracted aviation buffs from all over the world. The jet age finally replaced the trusty Electras when the operation switched to 737-300s in early 1992.
This all colour photo 60-page book presents an interesting look at this operation through the camera lens of Vancouver-based aviation photographer and aviation journalist Henry Tenby. A must have library addition for any true, red-blooded propliner enthusiast.
